Leibovich: Like many people, I’ve made the unwelcome comparison between Biden and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the late liberal icon whose legacy was stained by her unwillingness to retire while Barack Obama was still president. Ginsburg’s death, at 87, occurred in the final months of the Trump administration, which allowed him to appoint her successor (Amy Coney Barrett). The Real Time host Bill Maher dubbed the octogenarian president “Ruth Bader Biden” on his HBO program last September. Biden, Maher said, was “the person who doesn’t know when to quit and so does great damage to their party and their country.”

Back in 1984 I thought President Reagan, at the ripe old age of 73, was too old and out of touch to be running the country. Fast forward to 2016, I’m rooting for Bernie Sanders, and my Hillary-supporting friends protested, “Bernie’s too old! He’s 75! He probably remembers when fire was invented!”
So, at 73, Reagan was ancient. Bernie at 75 was prehistoric, but President Biden at 81 is somehow supposed to be our revered Jedi Master?
Meanwhile, 77 year old Donald Trump is showing many of the same signs of wear and tear as Joe Biden. If their upcoming debate is anything like their last match up, it will be the closest thing we have to a pay-per-view rap battle between two guys who should've retired years ago.
