#Ingenuity's #Flight47 captured from 120m away by #Perseverance on Sol 729. The camera was fixed and set to a 34mm focal length to capture as much of the action as possible, so resolution is not great, but this version zooms in and follows the #MarsHelicopter while it flies across the field, hopefully adding to the visual result.

Another animation showing the reflection of the sun on the thermal skin of the #MarsHelicopter projected on the ground, seconds before it landed after #Flight47.

The sequence is first stabilized on the shadow, and then it repeats stabilized on the reflection, allowing better observation of the variation of its luminosity and shape.

#Ingenuity #Solarocks #MarsHelicopterMovie

While waiting for news from #Ingenuity's Silver #Flight50, here is a version of its #Flight47 movie captured by #Perseverance on Sol 729. This version zooms in and follows the #MarsHelicopter while it flies across the fixed field-of-view of the rover's MastcamZ camera.

It may not be obvious at first, but the regolith layer is thin and there is bedrock underneath it.

#Ingenuity captured this image during its #Flight47, 34 seconds before it landed, on Sol 729. The animation shows ground details in full resolution.

Oh! No need for #Ingenuity to have flown backwards in order to capture the rover! If it rotated to SE right after it took off, and then flew sideways to the end, then it may have captured the rover in its very first RTE image of #Flight47 !

Possible location and orientation of #Ingenuity when it captured the RTE-47-8 image posted earlier in this thread. If this is right, the #MarsHelicopter flew sideways near the end of #Flight47.

Could it have flown backwards at the start of the flight to capture the rover too?

EDIT: Revised the RTE location estimates according to the official flight path. RTE 47-0 is a wish waiting to come true πŸ™‚

Estimate of #Ingenuity's #Flight47 landing. It appears that the #MarsHelicopter flew in a straight line from its previous location to its new landing, right to the limit of the announced range.

Flight 47 Preview – By the Numbers - NASA

Preview of Flight 47

This localization of #Ingenuity's RTE-46-8 image suggests that there will be no image capturing the inside of Belva Crater. Apparently #Perseverance will continue its run, now turning SW. The heli will most probably precede the rover with #Flight47 toward the direction of the RTE image shown above.

The total length of the flight path shown does not add up to 445m mentioned in #NASA's announcement; it may be more involved.
