Frustrated that I need to replace a wheel bearing in the #FiveDollarCar in order for it to pass inspection :/

But at least I checked the standard before not doing this, and my car will ride better once it’s fixed.

Still, it hurts to have to pony up another $500 for the part and installation (on this particular case, replacing wheel bearings is notoriously difficult).

Made it to the coast of Oregon, where the car is going to stay for a little bit while I take care of other stuff like DIYing what I can and getting a shop to do what I can’t.

I took some photos as the sun was setting and this image, with the edge of the sun peeking through a crack in the ridgeline, is my favourite.

One day of driving from the Pacific.

But first I’ll need to replace the battery and likely an oil change.

Cars be like that sometimes.

But in the meantime, some more stunning shots near sunset.

So who needed to run by Radio Shack?

Pulled over to sleep somewhere in Nebraska that is 900m up and fairly empty.

About 2k km to the West Coast. It’s wild thinking how big North America is. It’ll be two more days of driving, meaning another night of sleep somewhere.

Dear gods that sunset though.

Made it to the Mississippi!

Found exhaust problems. :/

The exhaust hangers are rusted away and there’s a hole in the exhaust pipe before the muffler.

Patched the hole and put a temporary hanger in place.

Yes, the coffee cup helped keep the muffler up for the work.

Yes I did it in a dress.

I’ve driven the hardest 250 miles of my life so far.

This car has power steering, a/c, and that’s it.

It’s more like riding a horse than driving a car thanks to how much of my body I need to put into it. My hands actually hurt from gripping the steering wheel. Car vibrates a lot around 60, so likely there’s an unbalanced tire, which will be “fun” to deal with.

Still got 650mi until my next destination but it’s 0100 and I’m a fairly diurnal human.

Road trip day.

I’m actually excited for tonight’s long drive.
