Further details on WA Flood event in the Kimberley region.
This has been called the worst flood disaster in WA's history.
🌊 60,000 cubic metres of water per second is flowing down the swollen Fitzroy River, now a 50km-wide inland sea as it spreads across the flood plain.
🛶 Flooding has caused the closure of a 700km section of the Great Northern Highway between Broome and Halls Creek.
🚁 Emergency evacuations continuing by helicopter, especially remote indigenous communities. Also food drops to now isolated homestead stations and townships.
✈️ 3 Defence Force planes assisting with airlift.
🌧️ Some of the flood and rain guages washed away
📰 While this flood event is due to ex-Cyclone Ellie and its movement during the monsoon season, most media ignore that in a warmer world there is more torrential rain: no media connection being made with the #ClimateCrisis.
