Thinking more about this, for the #1 issue (spaces in hashtags), they can turn the hashtag into #PascalCase

Example:
In #Tumblr, this hashtag is allowed: federation is the future.

They should convert that into a PascalCase hashtag: #FederationIsTheFuture

I think this is more preferable, and makes more sense, than using hyphen and underscores for Tumblr hashtags with spaces.
