I like my Panasonic LUMIX S9 (right), but I tend to pick up and use my Sony FX30 (left) more often — even for photos. The S9 is a smaller camera body, but put a lens on it and suddenly it isn’t so small anymore.

This picture shows the S9 with a Lumix 35mm f1.8. The FX30 has a Sony 20mm f1.8 — but because the FX30 has an APS-C sensor, the full-frame equivalent focal length is 30mm — close enough to the Lumix lens.

The two are about the same size with their lenses, though the S9 is quite a bit lighter because it is made of plastic.

People always say that Sony cameras produce clinical images, but the FX30 seems different and produces images with some character to them. And this is why I like shooting with it.

Plus, the camera itself looks pretty awesome. It feels great in hand with the generous grip and chunky body. The S9 is flat bodied and the tiny grip is an addition to give me a little bit to hold onto.
