72-hour general strike: F2S toughens its stance in response to the postponement of discussions with the Minister of Public Service

<p class="ql-align-justify"><span style="background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); color: rgb(34, 34, 34);">The expanded Conference of General Secretaries of the F2S met on Thursday, June 18, 2026, to examine the situation of the labor movement and review ongoing actions. Following this meeting, the union issued a press release announcing a series of pressure measures, including a 72-hour general strike.</span></p><p class="ql-align-justify"><br></p><p class="ql-align-justify"> <span style="background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); color: rgb(34, 34, 34);">“The meeting initially scheduled with the Minister of Public Service for Friday, June 19, 2026, has been postponed to a later date due to a scheduling conflict. While acknowledging this postponement, the F2S wishes to express its concern regarding this situation. In the absence of more precise information on the reasons for this postponement, we deeply regret it. This setback does not bode well for establishing a constructive social dialogue with the new minister, especially as workers' concerns remain unresolved and require urgent responses,” stated union representative Cheikh Seck.</span> </p><p class="ql-align-justify"><span style="background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); color: rgb(34, 34, 34);"> </span></p><p class="ql-align-justify"> <span style="background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); color: rgb(34, 34, 34);">Furthermore, he indicated that the request for a meeting submitted by the Front for the Defense of Demands (FDR) had been accepted. The meeting is therefore scheduled for Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 3:00 PM. Apart from a press statement scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, 2026, to reaffirm the F2S's positions and clarify the details of the adopted action plan, Cheikh Seck informed all workers of the measures taken, namely a 72-hour general strike on Wednesday, June 24, Thursday, June 25, and Friday, June 26, 2026, across the entire national territory, without minimum service; a boycott of all vaccination activities from Monday, June 29, to Monday, July 6, 2026; and the continued withholding of information throughout the national territory.</span> </p><p class="ql-align-justify"><span style="background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); color: rgb(34, 34, 34);"> </span></p><p class="ql-align-justify"> <span style="background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); color: rgb(34, 34, 34);">“The F2S calls on all workers to mobilize massively and strictly adhere to the directives in order to achieve the legitimate demands of the sector. At the end of this phase of action, an evaluation will be carried out to assess the level of satisfaction of the demands and determine the next steps for the movement,” he emphasized.
