Angels, on the other hand, do not require hosts. However, because of their nature, they tend to break the fabric of reality when taking a physical form. The presence of anomalies in physical spaces usually precedes an angel's manifestation. Unlike most real-world interpretations, here angels are not kind despite their often placid demeanors, which is merely a way to limit the amount of distress caused to the target so their message can be passed on or their task completed.

When hosting a demon, one will experience physical and mental changes. For example, Richard Wolfe's lycanthropy is exacerbated, and he can transform to a limited extent outside the full moon. During nights of the full moon, his werewolf form is rendered more monstrous.

Demons also tend to gravitate toward hosts with preexisting mental health issues, and most hosts find this symbiotic relationship to have positive effects.

Had a big brain moment. Lore dump time.

Demons and angels exist in my fictional world but function differently than they do theologically. They aren't separated into "evil" and "good." Angels can be counterproductive and aggressive, and demons can provide comfort and support. In this way, they embody more the mythological concepts of angelos (messengers) and daemons (spirits). Both are products of technology. Without going into great detail, demons appear in physical space as dark clouds of nanotech that require a host, while angels normally appear via technological devices in the form of AI (angelic intelligence) with the uncanny valley quality one would expect. Angels' physical forms, generally, range from deeply discomforting to infohazard-levels of terrifying.
