Torsten Frank on Instagram: "Finished El Piri! Came in last night a few minutes before 3 am. Having started at 5 am the morning before. All in all it was a great experience! But also a super tough challenge! Make no mistake and think this is some kind of a 'fun' or 'just an bikepacking entry' event as some of the communication might lead you thinking. "The riders make the race hard" is true for every "race". So you (and I certainly do) can have fun in every event/race you enter. But this one here has relentless climbing. Even most downhills are hard and chunky work. For you, your wrists (thank you, suspension fork), and your brakes. There are awsome descents, too. And awesome views. They are very hard earned, tho! So I kid you not: should you pondering the event for yourself get real steep climbing training in, altitude training won't hurt and be aware you will push your bike quite some bits (or have the 28-52 gearing ready). Also hope for that glorious weather we were so luckily treated to (although it should often be like that in June) - as being on the high wind altitudes with rain or worse would make that quite harsh and rob you of those views. All in all - do recommend. James and his family are lovely and caring organizers. But shift your expectations right! If this would be a 'race' I would rank it high up there. In difficulty significantly above, say, a Badlands (which interestingly is also an event, not a race). #ElPiri #Bikepacking #pyrenees @lesperitdelbikepacking @dotwatcher.cc"
