In short, the moderation team of tech.lgbt is holding eightpoint.app to unreasonable standards (which they're not applying to other instances) under the guise of keeping their own users safe.

Keeping users safe is the ultimate goal of moderation, but they're being heavy-handed & unreasonable here about a perceived threat that doesn't exist.

Attached: 1 image tech.lgbt continues to not be safe for trans people here is one of the mods continuing the tired, transmisogynistic claim that an entire group of trans women are supportive of/are rapists and the admin agreeing. this is a continuation of a months long campaign of harassment against a majority trans femme server which only retroactively uncovered an actual legitimate target. I was personally locked on tech.lgbt for trying to spread awareness of this transmisogynistic campaign - to which the admin David, informed me that I - a trans woman - wasn't allowed to voice an opinion on the matter. I would continue to advise leaving the instance, their allyship is only for model minorities.

My personal stance on #Eightpointapp RE: #techlgbt defed

We are a small server, but I was asked about this, so here we go.

I once stopped going to a coffee shop for 3 years because I was fed a nothing sandwich by internet outrage. Ever since I have been very careful with blanket decisions, especially when they impact others.

Most defeds I've done have been for trolls or Nazis.

We were all done with this situation back when the user was removed from their administrative post at #Eightpoint and left the server.

I want to be utterly clear, Laurelai Bailey is a bad person. She is not welcome on coop.lol now or at any point in the future. The amount of drama involving her across the internet is absolutely ludicrous for someone so unnoteworthy.

Incoming a super brief rundown. She has had allegations of SA placed against her. She has levied claims of libel against those accusers. In both situations, potential victims have made their decision to not pursue legal recourse. Clearly the truth must lie somewhere in the murky middle there, where only the people present actually know for certain what happened.

She has also been known to be an FBI informant. She was a mod for r/antiwork and r/ContraPoints and was removed following information that determined who she was.

I am not aware of any servers that she is currently on. If that changes, discussions will be held and a decision will be made then, not before. Anything short of that is harmful to the community at large.

I'm disappointed with the actions being taken here by tech.lgbt & I hope that they back down over this, but I sadly doubt that they will 😢

Attached: 3 images The way a thing is done matters. I value my integrity and my transparency very highly. Because of that, I am disclosing a communication I received last morning from a member of the moderation team of tech.lgbt for reasons which remain unclear to me. That communication is presented in full in the screenshots below. In short, I was alerted to the mods' intent to defederate eightpoint.app, and was in that same message simultaneously expected to keep that confidential. As I had not previously expressed a boundary to anyone on Mastodon to not do that, I initially offered to keep that confidence under duress. Within an hour, and upon reflection--I'd needed to go to a doctor's appointment just after I received the first message, so I rushed a response--I decided that that was not comfortable on any level with the expectation of confidence or the power dynamic involved. I demanded that the mods release me from that confidence, and they crafted the formal defederation announcement within a few hours. (1/2)

So I hadn’t been following the #eightpoint and #TechLGBT thing, but having read some of the exchange and the emails that are given I just feel that there’s an odd understanding of ‘Restorative Justice’. And having read the book, “On Repentance and Repair” (a Jewish approach) I feel like the *actual* victims of the perpetrator maybe haven’t been involved as much as they should be?

I have friends on tech.lgbt & eightpoint.app.

I have friends on both sides of this divide who are pissed at the other side.

If I side with one bunch of friends, I lose the other.

If I don't take a side, I'll probably lose both for trying to be neutral.
