🕳️ The Waterloo & Victoria Tunnels, from Edge Hill district down to the Liverpool docklands.
Opened in 1849, they effectively form a single, continuous two-mile subterranean passage. Two distinct names based on their original hauling technology.
The tunnels were closed in 1972 due to the decline of the north docks and transatlantic ship travel, which rendered them redundant.

Off to #EdgeHill today with my daughter to look around the campus. She’s considering going next year.
First time I’ve been back since I trained as a teacher there nearly 30 years ago!
Edge Hill, near Banbury, Warwickshire, c.1905-10 - Postcard
The genius of #Ancestry has turned this reference to 'A Great Battell' at Kineton in Warwickshire in 1642, into a burial record for a Theresa. A. Baffel. 🤨
Ever heard of someone called Great Battell? No, nor has anyone. A perfect example of why should you never trust AI, OCR or automated readers on historical documents. It's because of doozies like this...🤦♂️

Interesting observation trawling online archives for references to the dead at battle of #Edgehill 1642.
Contemp. reports say therewere so many bodies they were buried in pits, but you'd think there would still be some recorded in nearby villages, died later of wounds, or taken home & buried.
But there's so little, as if 23rd Oct never happened. Stark compared to other battles w/ so many records.
Is it really just that nearly everyone was buried on site? 🤔
