🌊 In 2025, the European ocean region recorded a record high annual average sea surface temperature (SST) for the 4th year in a row. The Mediterranean recorded its second-highest annual SST. A record 86% of the European region saw at least one day of ‘strong’ marine heatwave conditions.

❄️ In 2025, much of Europe saw fewer snow days than average, while end‑of‑season snow cover extent was 31% below average and snow mass 45% below, both the 3rd lowest in 42 years.

📉 In 2025, around 90% of the continent had fewer cold stress days than average – a record low. 📈 41% of Europe saw more ‘strong’ heat stress days & parts of southern Europe had up to 30–40 more tropical nights.

️🌡️ In July 2025, sub-Arctic Fennoscandia saw its longest and most severe heatwave on record: a 21‑day event with temps ≥30°C near and within the Arctic Circle leading to ‘strong’ heat stress, severe drought and high fire danger.
