This is why I remind people when they use ableist language, as this is White supremacist eugenic thinking. Imani Barbarin has a lot of good stuff on this on her social media (she's not active on Fedi). She's a disability activist and communication expert.

Also, to add to this thread: this is Dylan Rodríguez on Lexical Warfare, which is about exactly these points to. Words, lexicon, and narratives are battle grounds and the right has been very effective with this. They made a lot of liberatory words into their opposites. Unfortunately, with e.g. "woke" and "identity politics" the White left has helped them.

Everyone who has ever said or thought: "Why are you complaining about, scolding, making a big deal out, this word? There are more important things to worry about, like this fascist takeover!"

needs to listen/watch Dylan Rodríguez on Lexical Warfare. He shows how words are part of the fight, or even are the fight. Look e.g. how the right fights with "antisemitism" or "DEI." In this example, due to my limited skills, I used the words as weapons, while building a lexicon goes much further: they shape our realities, also on a material level!

Plus loads of other good food for thought and for actions.
