Because of a material shortage, an old retired Mat 64 train dating back to the 60s and 70s, is going to be put back into service between Amersfoort, Barneveld and Ede-Wageningen! For the fans of classic Dutch trains, this is a really unique opportunity to see this train type in real service. They were once ubiquitous in the Netherlands, seen on most local train services until they were retired in the 2010s.
As of the first of January this year, all public transport trains in the Netherlands are being powered by renewable energy, namely from wind power. There's currently a total of 2,200 wind turbines across the country, which generate enough power to sustain the equivalent of 2.4 million homes.
NS bestelt voor 600 miljoen euro nieuwe treinen met verschillende hoogtes
De Nederlandse Spoorwegen hebben voor het eerst ooit treinen besteld die zijn samengesteld uit delen met één dek en delen met twee dekken, of verdiepingen. Ook zijn ze sneller dan de huidige treinen. Voor zestig stuks betaalt NS zo'n 600 miljoen euro, zo heeft het spoorbedrijf bekendgemaakt.
