Watched two WWII dramas.

The Fifth Seal - The war’s impact on the lives of people living in the city. Impressive, though a tad bit too didactic for my taste.

The Ascent - Unlike the above, on the front lines of the war.

Both movies deal with human conscience under pressure: survival vs honour. Although the setting is different, in one way very similar endings, too. They were made around the same time as well, which makes them a nice double bill.

Two excellent examples of action / comedy / romance films set in ‘far away exotic lands.’ Both of them sadly make the most of the stereotypes of their setting’s people, but even when viewed in their origin’s creation period, some things have not aged well.

There are other problems — a map gets folded for seemingly no reason and reveals secrets, as well as the Nile seemingly running through a vaguely Arab region — but the action is very good.
