Do the Math - Using physics and estimation to assess energy, growth, options

Inexhaustible Flows?

"All the #RenewableEnergy technologies rely on non-renewable materials. Therefore, inexhaustible flows are beside the point. It’s like saying that fossil fuel energy is not practically limited by available oxygen for combustion, so we can enjoy fossil fuels indefinitely. Or that D–T fusion has billions of years of deuterium available, when there’s no naturally-occurring tritium (thus reliant on limited lithium supply)."

Out on the #DoomerOptimism podcast today, a most stimulating chat I had with #ChrisSmaje and #JasonSnyder!

After my previous convo with Jason, Chris contacted us to suggest we all talk more about the cultural/spiritual aspects of where a #SmallFarmFuture meets #LeanLogic...

So that's what we did! 🖤

Just had a v enjoyable chat with #ChrisSmaje and #JasonSnyder, which I believe will go out on #DoomerOptimism next Tuesday.

After the below chat Chris contacted us to suggest joining to talk more about the cultural/spiritual aspects of where a #SmallFarmFuture meets #LeanLogic...

@DarkOptimism great to hear; I'll queue it up soon! I'm a bit surprised you hadn't been a guest yet -- in fact, a couple years ago when I first encountered it, I originally thought #DoomerOptimism was the hashtag of the Shaun Chamberlin fan club! 😆

I joined Jason Snyder on the podcast of #DoomerOptimism, to discuss that relatively recently emerged network in the U.S., and the connections between our respective adventures living in post-collapse sequels to our present civilisation, on either side of the Atlantic!

Interesting theory on why garden plants sometimes get overrun by insects:

1. over-fertilization with nitrogen
- can occur naturally after thunderstorms 🤯
2. plants can neither suppress N update, nor speed up protein synthesis to match
3. N accumulates in amino acid form
4. On which insects thrive

🤔 With a semi-biochem-PhD background, I can't seen an obvious flaw in that. Maybe @sarahtaber can weigh in on this line of argument?

@DarkOptimism I was just thinking... I'm part of this weird group of people on Twitter that call themselves 'doomer optimists' -- mostly crunchy homesteaders and systems thinkers -- and for some reason I never made the connection between that banner and your slogan. You must've primed me to be receptive to the idea of #DoomerOptimism.
