Your problem is with social media algorithms, not activists. When you're really in relationships and communities, your feed fills up with lots of actions both online and offline. When you're not, it just shows you what bothers you the most.

And yes, lonely, severely isolated, abandoned, traumatized, or sick people come to social media to vent. That's how a lot of people use social media. So maybe ask yourself why it bothers you so much when people CC you, compared to venting about any other social issue.

I know a doctor on TikTok whose platform is centered around his son, who died in a drunk driving accident. Most of what I've seen from him is about his son's death, asking people not to drink and drive. I don't see actions, probably because I'm not an anti-drunk driving activist.

I don't see his content trying to educate others as "not encouraging mobilization" or "lots of information but no action." He's trying to get people to stop drunk driving. We're trying to get people to stop infecting each other with a deadly and disabling disease.

I don't take his content personally because I don't drink and drive. Now imagine what the speech would be like for him, a man who tragically lost his son, if everyone drank and drove. And supported others to do so as well. That's what's happening with disease mitigations right now.

It's almost as if social media is about sharing information and emotions. Something people can decide to take action on or not. Wearing a mask is an action. Hear the sound of "It's not a problem when they do it, it's only a problem when I do it."

Stop apologizing for how you look: You're feeding into this concept that when women are out in public and being perceived, they're performing for other people. By constantly apologizing for your appearance, you're reinforcing that every time someone sees you, you need to make them feel more comfortable, you need to be more mellow for them. And there are men who see women in public and think that everything they do is an audition to be their girlfriend, wife, or next relationship. So stop apologizing for how you look, stop being so consumed with how you present yourself to others and just exist.

I think a major problem we have is that people think theory is just the opinions of the person who wrote it. When communists talk about theory, the texts we talk about are like scientific studies of phenomena observed in society over the years. When we talk about theory, we are talking about theory in the same sense that we talk about the law of gravity. Sure, you could look around and observe what is going on and come to the correct conclusion that capitalism is wrong, but if you want to know more about how gravity works, you would have to study it, and that is what we mean when we say read theory. You have to study the phenomena around us if we are going to understand how to dismantle them or how they came about in the first place. I think this is why there is so much friction when it comes to reading theory.

The liberals have given us the best recruiting tool: their hatred, their rudeness, their disrespect, their condescension. They have given us true leftists the best opportunity to recruit a potential new generation. We have the opportunity to talk to people who reluctantly voted for that woman, who didn't want to support that ideology, but didn't know any other way. This is our chance to embrace those people, to love and care for those people, to show them that there are people who don't abandon marginalized communities based on electoral politics.

You can’t be in community with people and refuse to have conversations with them when a problem arises. I know there are people who need to hear this, so let me be the messenger of this bad news: you can't complain about people if you haven’t expressed the difficulties you’re having with them. And don’t get me wrong, no one’s mind-reading. Believe me when I say that if you’re not addressing that problem directly with the person, we don’t want to hear about it. You can’t bring it to us if you’re not willing to communicate directly about the issue. Keep it in the right place, in the back of the situation, okay?

People engage with community in very different ways, and community is central to what I do as a social worker. That’s the whole idea. I recognize that people have different approaches and reasons for wanting to form community, and that’s completely okay. But again, you can't be in community if you have poor communication. Because, as you can see, communication is essential to community. It’s literally in the word, sweetheart. Please be really honest.

It’s manipulative to use this language to avoid truly being in community with others. If the goal is to have community, connect with people, and make space for others, if you really don’t have the energy for it, there are ways to show that and set boundaries about how you present yourself. You can carry the weight of your own problems, and if you find yourself in a community with people who are unable to do that, then you’re in the wrong community.

in order to achieve our liberation or move forward, we have to disrupt the very foundation we are used to standing on. It is important to think that the empire will fall, yes, but only if people tear it down.

liberation has been replaced by complacency for so long, where we are actively repressed from thinking about our histories and futures. We should be reflecting right now: what is liberation for you? What is liberation for us? Think about that and what arises in you when you think about liberation. Plan, conjure, and imagine everywhere. Come on, everyone. We are the waves!

Belief is the basis of action. You have to believe in something, even just a little bit, in order to be motivated to follow through with it. If you don't believe that there's a possibility of something happening or that you'll do something, then you won't do it. Because you don't even have the basis of belief that motivates you to guide you towards it. That's why it's very important for you to look at the beliefs that you have behind whatever it is that you want to do in your life. If you don't believe that this is even possible for you, that you could even potentially achieve it, even in a small way, then of course you won't want to act, of course you'll put it off, of course you'll sabotage yourself. This is something that could potentially work for you.

The goal of gender liberation is to achieve gender liberation for all. Insisting that people who challenge traditional gender roles must identify as nonbinary, trans, or queer is not truly radical. Limiting our imagination and falling into identity policing occurs when we insist that those who break gender norms must necessarily identify outside the traditional gender binary. Straight cis men and women also have the right to challenge and break gender rules.

As queer and trans people, we must resist the temptation to become the gender police.

True gender liberation involves allowing free expression of our full humanity and precious uniqueness, without succumbing to pressure to hide parts of ourselves. We can achieve this no matter our gender identity or sexual orientation.

There is a strange feeling and one that I am even afraid of and it is the thought that I am going to kill myself without wanting to. It is something difficult to explain and maybe it seems that it has no correlation, but sometimes it feels more autonomous to be able to decide your own death when you realize how interdependent you are with people.

Dependency does not seem negative to me, in fact, it seems to me one of the most obvious ways that we need mutual support and that we need each other. And given these times of eugenics and ableism, although it would be necessary to see when these have not been times like these, realizing that there is a large part of your life that does not depend on you feels heartbreaking. Especially when you have been chronically ill and your body and mind have had to grab onto life and cling to it.

Detachment from life is paradoxical. What happens to me with real life is that I want to live it and all the reasons that are given to me for not doing so are eugenic and ableist and capitalist. But at the same time, to not enter into a spiral where the pain is more
