Hey Fedi. Should I keep my LinkedIn account?
I'll be retiring in May. I might want to do a little consulting after that. Or not.
I haven't looked at LinkedIn for over a year, after writing in my profile "I don't use LinkedIn. Contact me by other means." and turning off all emails from LinkedIn.
Is it worth keeping the account, just so somebody else doesn't take over my name? Are there other reasons to keep the account?

Had a conversation which mentioned LinkedIn this morning.
That reminded me to delete my account. Done.
Any game workers here who've managed to cut themselves off from corporate social media without career/networking/collaboration consequences? I know so many game industry alums who are older and only use Facebook, but it's hard to evangelize fedi/ActivityPub without being perceived negatively.

@AnnaOutOfSp4ce I deleted my account when Microsoft purchased LI. It was a political move made easy by the really low value exchanges I had on there, and from what I hear it hasn't improved.
I'm sure it has affected some work opportunities since, but then — I don't want to work for employers who find it suspect to avoid massive online networks 🤷

Every bit of your data feeds Microsoft. I killed linkedIn off as soon as MS started requiring new users to supply a mobile phone number. I was grandfathered on that but I will not be the bait by which ppl who knew me are forced to compromise their mobile number to MS in order to reach me.
Rappel: votre compte Linkedin n’est *pas* visible pour les personnes non-connectées sur le site mais arrivera en haut des résultats de recherche sur votre nom.
Bien cachées des simples utilisateurs, vos données Linkedin sont par contre à la portée de tous les spammeurs qui paient pour cela.
Avoir un compte Linkedin est donc un désavantage pour votre visibilité globale en ligne mais un appel à se faire spammer/espionner.
