“When did you join fedi?”

Easy. On “#DeactiDay,” in August 2018. (I may have had an account before, and I’ve moved a couple times since, but that’s the date I’m going to stick with.) And unlike Monteiro, I never went back (to Twitter). https://x.com/monteiro/status/1028315475296452609

Next Friday. We’re out. The only thing Twitter cares about is engagement. Let’s stop giving it to them. Reclaim your life. Reclaim your blood pressure. Reclaim your mental health. Please help spread the message. #DeactiDay

I'd obviously deleted my older account before that, on '#DeactiDay'.
De Twitter-cijfers doen me eraan denken dat #DeactiDay alweer van 17 augustus geleden is. Ruim twee maanden.
What I like most about Mastodon, is that it shows me that I don’t need Twitter in my life (I was one of the #deactiday peeps). It also means that I won’t put much effort in Mastodon either ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@alexchar
I don't think he did anything. The only thing I see about him is that he deactivated his Twitter, supposedly as part of #deactiday.

He made a post slamming Twitter saying it encourages bigotry and...well all the other crappy stuff that Twitter does indeed do.

Also. Did #deactiday have any effect?
Wondering how many of you did #deactiday? And how many are still deactivated? And can you tell me if my ux and south asian people might come over here anytime? (I'll probably reactivate in a few days to convince everyone to come over.)

Having watched the #deactiday toots last week, I thought, “Do any of these people know that the Library of Congress has been archiving all their tweets?”

Turns out, that project never got off the ground. Twitter got too big, too fast for a bureaucracy that was already too big and too slow.

I’m not sure why I expected that it would be successful.

Can Twitter Fit Inside the Library of Congress?

Six years ago, the world’s biggest library decided to archive every single tweet. Turns out that’s pretty hard to do.

Hey, if you've posted your instance promo on Twitter, feel free to send me a URL so I can RT it on Twitter!
