Tuning in to College Radio Materials on World Radio Day 2026 | Internet Archive Blogs

Backports

This time for #Hams...

Yup, #Radio_Amateurs, I thought I'd share a little treasure trove with you all, as I figure many may not be aware of just how vast this resource is.

The Digital Library of Amateur Radio and Communications #DLARC

Their description:

The Digital Library of Amateur Radio and Communications is a library of materials and collections related to amateur radio and early communications. The DLARC is funded by a significant grant from Amateur Radio Digital Communications, a private foundation, to create a digital library that documents, preserves, and provides open access to the history of this community..

As an added bonus, I've included a huge archive link for thousands upon thousands of manuals for just about any electronic device you can think of, from the Manuals Plus Collection that was rescued when that company went out of business a couple of years back.

- Feel free to boost for the benefit of your fellow Hams and electronics hobbyists 🔩 ⚡ 📻

Enjoy!

@kilroy_was_here I have not heard that term before, but when archive.org is up an running fully again, you can try searching for that term in a full text search of the #DLARC and sorting for the oldest occurances: https://archive.org/details/dlarc?tab=collection&query=strays&sin=TXT
Internet Archive: Digital Library of Free & Borrowable Texts, Movies, Music & Wayback Machine

@dlarc Given all the trouble archive.org has been going through; is there any effort to backup/archive the #dlarc elsewhere? I know the torrents are available on every item's page, but that isn't practical for a large project like this, and isn't discoverable without archive.org being up. Hopefully they are around forever, but the dlarc is a treasure, and should be in a few places.
He was licensed in 1933, and by 1938: "I discovered that my great interest was to be able to build things that you could carry with you that would be portable - I enjoyed taking things out and taking batteries along with me to a park and being able to operate portable." Well look at that #pota in the 1930s! #DLARC
Listening to Al Gross W8PAL interviewed in 1991 on the "Ham Radio and More" show discussing the history of ham radio. He starts with his memory of building a crystal radio in 1930 and hearing 160m hams. https://archive.org/details/hamradioandmore_1991-08-04 #DLARC

Internet Archive

Just arrived on my desk — 160+ episodes of Ham Radio & More, a radio show that aired 1991 through 1997. These have never been heard since their original air date. I've started to digitize them.

These pictures show just half of the cassettes that need to be digitized!
