They were traveling to Nashville after appearing at a benefit concert for the widow of Kansas City disc jockey 'Cactus' Jack Call, who had died in a car crash. On 7 March, country singer Jack Anglin was killed in a car crash on his way to Cline's funeral. Cline was the first country singer to cross over as a pop artist.

Musical Interlude: Lloyd "Cowboy" Copas was one of country music's great early stars, with a number of hits in the 40s and early 50s. He had a career slump in the 50s, but in 1960 scored a huge hit and seemed to be on the verge of a major comeback....but in 1963 he died in the same plane crash that took Patsy Cline and Hawkshaw Hawkins. Still, he left behind many great tunes, including this fun rockabilly tune that amuses me as it mixes rockabilly with square dancing...
