One last post about my #CowParade project. At the urging of some fiber artist friends, I created a written pattern for it. Here is a link to the free pattern, should you have a compelling need to knit a stranded colorwork sweater for a life-sized cow. : https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/a-sweater-fit-for-a-cow

And if you'd rather get it from my blog instead: https://starfieldfarm.com/a-sweater-fit-for-a-cow-the-pattern/

Enjoy! :)

A Sweater Fit for a Cow pattern by Lisa Cohen

This project was undertaken as part of the Cow Parade at Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge, Massachusetts in early summer 2025. I was one of the artists chosen to decorate a fiberglass cow that would eventually be auctioned off to support the museum. I had 60 days to complete it.

Modern Daily Knitting interviewed me about my #cowParade sweater project. What a fun conversation! Enjoy!

Knit a Sweater for Your Cow – Modern Daily Knitting

Last evening, I got to be part of the artists preview of all the decorated cows in the Old Sturbridge Village's Cow Parade event!

25 full sized cows & 3 babies each decorated by a different artist. They were all fabulous!

My knitted cow sweater was a huge hit! They put it in the visitors center!

The cows will be on display from June 21st through September 28th.

So a friend came over and did a little photoshoot with me and my cow...

Oops! Broke the thread on the #CowParade projects! (Pun intended!)

It is finished! And on the cow. Who has the best dressed cow in Central Massachusetts? Yup. Me!

Here is the latest update: https://starfieldfarm.com/and-finished/

It includes the metrics on amount of yarn, number of stitches, and more.

Thanks for following along! If you're anywhere near Sturbridge, MA, my cow along with 24 others will be in display starting June 21st through September at Old Sturbridge Village.

Who needs something silly & totally ridiculous in their lives right now?? I offer you scenes from the blocking of the sweater I designed and knitted for a life-sized fiberglass cow.

Ready to start the last sleeve!!!

This has been quite the project. Deadline is 9 days away. One sleeve & finishing the button bands is what remains to be done.

A new update in the #CowParade project! Sweater body is finished & cut open. I may have to do an unplanned extra seam to get the sweater on the cow - what I should have done was plan the buttons down the back instead of the belly. It would have made dressing the cow easier. I might be able to get the extra stretch I need if I put it on the cow damp and let it dry in place. Otherwise I'll do a set of lifelines & kitchener stitch the extra seam closed.

I'm finally done with all the stranded colorwork motifs for the body of the cow sweater!

Once I finish the bottom ribbing, I'll needle felt the steek line, cut the tube into a cardigan and do a fit check for the cow before working down the sleeves.
