@petersuber see, even publishers are agreeing now that copyright is too long for its own good. #CopyrightKillsCulture

this article almost gets it. it talks about two perspectives on art: that it’s like a private island, to be looked at but not touched; and that it’s a common good, free for anyone to take and use and remix. #copyright only makes sense with the first view, but the second view is just how culture works. culture is endless remixing, and enforcement of copyright is denial of the very nature of art. #CopyrightKillsCulture

remember: the #LofiGirl fiasco was caused by #copyright. Lofi Girl got lucky because the channel is so popular. imagine how a less popular radio would have fared. #CopyrightKillsCulture

so this was sent to me the other day. the generally lighthearted tone of the video aside, this is a serious problem. tl;dw: record labels sued Roblox for #copyright infringement and in doing so, destroyed the liveliness of thousands of Roblox games. #CopyrightKillsCulture

i have mixed feelings on this. on the one hand, it's great that the scp wiki is moving to full Creative Commons, but on the other hand, this shouldn't have to happen. scp-173 is an exemplar of what can happen when copyright is abolished and culture is freed, and in my opinion the image was the soul of the entry. #AbolishCopyright #CopyrightKillsCulture
