I'm broadly happy with the #CommunityFibre ISP, speed is great, DNS is a bit flakey (I run my own DNS anyway, so not such an issue), but the supplied #Linksys router is a pile of poo.

Suggest me up a decent 2.5 gig router / WiFi access point box please.

For any of my London-based friends working from home and finding their #CommunityFibre internet has gone down. Go to your router settings / advanced / local network. Switch DNS to manual and use Google's DNS server 8.8.8.8. Don't forget to turn it back to auto when the problems are fixed.
this works! Go to your router (probably 192.168.1.1) > Connectivity > Local Network then change Static DNS 1 to '1 1 1 1', click 'apply' then it should cut out for a moment and start working again #CommunityFibre bsky.app/profile/batt...

OK #CommunityFibre, what is going on why is my IP flapping like that? It used to only change rarely, maybe once a year, and now it's been 4 times in about a month. Anyone else experiencing this?
Geeks: I just wrote up our 8 month saga trying to get our WiFi working. I hope to get some good advice.https://michaeledwards.org.uk/wifi-saga/

WiFi saga

This is my reply (25 May 2024) to the twitter operatives of 2 of the 3 companies involved in our 8-month saga of success and failure with our wifi installation. If either of these firms (or anyone …

Unfortunately, it's still standard #Openreach #VDSL - 80/20 mbps.

I was hoping to get #FTTP - #CommunityFibre stuck a flyer through my door almost a year ago now saying that I was eligible. There's a telephone pole directly in front of the house with CommunityFibre fibre on it.

At the time, I was still in contract with BT. When I called them now, they said they're no longer hooking up any houses in my area.

I assume that's because we've been added to Openreach's "Fibre Priority Plan" - aiming to bring us FTTP by 2026. Which is quite a lot longer than it would have taken CommunityFibre to connect me - and Openreach's FTTP product still has very asymmetrical speeds - whereas CommunityFibre offers #gigabit symmetric.

Thanks

Sounds plausible BUT the cure happened when a tech support phone worker at #CommunityFibre HQ said "Hold on while I do something here…Let's see if that fixes it."
Very welcome fix, whatever it is.
@CenturyAvocado
Finally, after 4 weeks hassling, it all seems to be working well. The last #CommunityFibre technician replaced a small white modem with a larger black one and I suspect that someone at HQ allocated us a bit more bandwidth to pacify us.
Could that remove the tendency to drop the connection?
The fibre termination box has been the same throughout, branded CommunityFibre.
another 40 minutes, this time on phone toTech Support who talked me through switching off and then on again. It works. He advises 'monitoring the situation'.
