The article examines how LanguageLine Solutions’ adoption of AI‑driven scheduling software dramatically disrupted the work lives of its Haitian‑Creole, Polish‑English, Russian‑English, and other interpreters. After a business downturn in 2025, the new platform—NiCE—fragmented shifts, cut hours by up to 20 % and, in some cases, imposed unpaid “mandatory involuntary time off,” leaving workers like single‑mother Yves Valerus financially strained and forced to prioritize basic expenses. Interpreters report near‑constant calls with only a 15‑second break, heightened stress, and a loss of downtime that previously allowed for rest. In response, more than 200 interpreters have petitioned the company and begun unionizing with the Communications Workers of America, raising concerns about the broader rollout of algorithmic management and AI in low‑wage, hourly jobs; city officials, including New York City’s comptroller, are now scrutinizing LanguageLine’s labor practices.

This type of conduct is what led to these workers going out on strike and it does nothing more than aggravate the situation.
