Update: Communauto replied to my inquiry about the trip calculator. The reason I couldn't get my calculations to match those of their trip calculator for this scenario is...
...a bug! My detailed notes helped them isolate it and their IT people are apparently working on a fix.
Well, at least I learned a lot about the intricacies of their rate structure trying to figure that out, and my spreadsheet is more robust for it.
I'm one step closer to the exit of this rabbit hole!
... So please help me figure out how #Communauto phases in their weekend surcharge:
Using their trip calculator (link at bottom), a 24-hour, 0km, round-trip booking starting at midnight on a Saturday shows each plan's daily max, plus the $3.50/day weekend surcharge. Makes sense.
The same trip starting at midnight Friday shows the daily rate alone. Makes sense. Same if the start time is ≤16h00 on Friday.
But after 16h00 Friday all hell breaks loose...

Thread: I've hit a roadblock in my saga of trying to build a spreadsheet to analyze my #Communauto usage.
While trying to make sure my calculations accurately mirror the results from Communauto's rate calculator, I found a strange edge case in how the weekend surcharge ($0.35/hr to a maximum of $3.50/day) is applied on trips that overlap weekdays and weekends.
I've spent the last two nights trying to understand how the rates are calculated and remain bewildered.

Mistakes happen but man Communauto really fucked me over today. I made a reservation and just when I was about to take it, the app had an outage (on that, make sure you register your opus card on the app, that way if it ever dies you can still start your reservation with the card).
Turns out this has been an issue since 10 am, but they still happily allowed me to make a reservation and even sent me an email confirming the reservation. They better not fucking charge me.
Personally, I would be delighted to replace my car with a system that gives me a similar level of convenience at lower cost -- this was the original promise of ridehailing systems like Uber, and of the #robotaxi. Maybe it will work out eventually...
We have added a membership in a car-sharing service (#Communauto) in the last year, so at least the appeal of a second car has abated.

Very smart move by Communauto (and City of Toronto if they were involved) - all the very-short-term-rental cars which are parked on city streets are free until 3pm Friday, to help keep them out of the way of plows and all the snow removed from them!
