The VAX11/780 wasn't just a star computer of digital equipment, but No.1 at CoCom's top10 international export charts. With 1.0 VUP DEC challenged IBM 360 systems and beat them in efficiency.
Launched in late 70s, the legendary 32bit computer was running @ 5Mhz on a KA780 CPU with up to 128 MByte of RAM. In VMScluster systems of 2/4 they delivered up to 3.5 VUPs.

@niconiconi hey, the #GDR did attempt to make good money, but due to #CoCom aka. #Cyberfacism with #Embargos of #Technology and their de-facto nonexisting liquidity, maximum output of 1Mbit chips was propagandized at a number lower than a early monday shift at Toshiba at the same era...

Not to mention like #Russia's #MCST the tech used is several generations older than "state of the art"...
