You know, if we were boiling the oceans and scorching the continents in order to go out with one monstrous hedonistic Masque of The Red Death-style big bang then I could at least see the point. But killing the planet in order to generate worthless strings of bits and create a better autocomplete is just plain depressing.

Ich wünsche euch freundlichen Fedinauten¹ nur gute Zeiten in diesem Jahr #2024 , in bescheidener #Lebensweise mit möglichst großer #Nachhaltigkeit und glücklich dabei.
Nennt mich naiv, aber ich denke, dass nur so ein gesundes Leben möglich ist: Im Einklang mit der Natur.²

Most of the negotiators at #COP28 are probably my age or older. I expect to die sometime in the 2050s, and will not live to see the catastrophic climate change that's coming in the latter half of this century as a result of the abject failure of COP28 to make the changes we need.
I get that they probably don't give a shit about that for themselves.
But don't any of them have children? Or grandchildren?
