Justin Perkins, Presbyterian missionary, quotes the Englishman William Cowper, who was able to say that he loved his country (Britain) despite its flaws, which may have included “The Negro's Complaint” (1788). Perkins says American slavery is a “stupendous wrong”, but loves his country.
