PM Carney delivers remarks on ...

It worries me that all this new defense spending is going to be spent on the wrong things (I.e. funneled into the pockets of government insiders like Bombardier) when it should be spent on things that would actually make a difference toward national defense, like emulating Ukraine’s defensive capability.
“Canada's National Research Council (NRC) is pouring over $900 million into a long-term plan to establish a drone research facility and purchase a Canadian-built Bombardier Global 6500 to support defence research.”

Or, we could just #BuyTheGripen
”Hanwha pitches broad defense package to boost bid for Canada submarine”
“As part of the effort, Hanwha Ocean agreed to cooperate with Algoma Steel, Canada's largest steel producer. The agreement includes plans to invest about 345 million Canadian dollars to help establish a stable steel supply chain in Canada for submarine construction and long-term maintenance, repair and overhaul work, contingent on winning the contract. Hanwha said the approach goes beyond material procurement by directly supporting local manufacturing capacity.”

We would have to have rocks in our heads to buy these things.

I’m actually in favour of increasing our military spending, mostly because I anticipate the US deciding at some to point to switch to military means to annex us if their economic measure aren’t successful.
What worries me is how much of this new spending is going to be directed right to the hostile country that’s threatening us.
We should be lessening our dependence on the US militarily just much as we should be should be lessening our dependence on them economically.

Come to think of it, I can’t think of a better dick-punch to Trump for his hurt-feelings meltdown over DoFos ad, than for Carney to announce that we’ve ‘decided to go in a different direction’ for our fighter jet needs.
Canada should buy the Gripen.

All the more reason for Canada not to buy the F-35s.
“NATO is not prepared for war
That much became apparent last month, when expensive fighter jets were scrambled to shoot down cheap foam drones.”
