Japanese Beautyberry (Callicarpa dichotoma) from late October. This species differs from American Beautyberry (Callicarpa americana) in its size: Japanese Beautyberry is a smaller species with smaller leaves, fruits and overall height. It is also more cold hardy than than its American counterpart.

A glaze of light frost brings out all details in the garden this week. the Callicarpa (the purple beauty berry) is a particular favourite. the tiny succulents always remind me of the Arctic, we have them in a window box and it's a good type because we really see the details as we go past.

Beautyberry plants grow wild in the woodlands and hammocks of peninsula Florida and add a nice pop of color to the landscape. The ripe purple berries are often made into jelly and are a last resort food source for many birds. This spray of berries has be given a little razzle-dazzle glamour through photoart.
