This week’s public health conference in Kigali, Rwanda, hosted by the Ministry of Health and Africa CDC, was one of the best global health meetings I have ever been to

This is the Duke Global Health team that attended—from the center that I lead (Center for Policy Impact in Global Health) & the Duke Global Health Innovation Center

We have many research & policy partnerships with universities, think tanks & ministries, including in Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, & Sierra Leone

Healthcare provision in much of Africa still relies on external donors. There’s insufficient funding to help low-income countries control noncommunicable diseases.

Most development assistance for health funding provided by international donors is allocated for infectious diseases and maternal and child health.

This is part of the discussions at the Conference on Public Health in Africa taking place this week in Kigali, Rwanda.

#CPHIA2022 is the first in-person edition of the International Conference on #PublicHealth in Africa. The #RKI is one of the international partners joining Africa CDC in Rwanda 🇷🇼 right now. Cooperation has been growing in recent years.
Many discussions point to strong & resilient national institutes of Public Health in order to prepare for future emergencies.
The RKI supports partners in Africa to establish & strengthen institutes, for example in Namibia 🇳🇦.
