Heather EvansGood morning Fedi friends. It’s a glorious sunny morning, just an 8c start & a little mist around but now the sun is shining & will stay that way. Heading up to a lovely 17c, perfect for working outside or even just sitting with a book & a cuppa.
The feijoas finished drying at around 3am & I dealt with them when I got up. They shrink a lot, which I did expect & I have a container half filled with hard little fruity discs. I could have shortened the time so that they’d remain pliable, but then they wouldn’t keep as well. I’ll crush & sprinkle some on my chia porridge & I’m sure I’ll find other uses. I’m happy with the first effort anyway & there will probably be another lot drying in less than a week. I picked up a bowlful that dropped during the night. Some of these will be given away, some I will eat.
I heard from the maintenance people early today who have received work order to look at the bathroom issue. They’re coming on Monday morning which works well for me.
Not much on the agenda today, this is a quiet week for me which doesn’t often happen. So another at home balance class & then I’m going to enjoy that sunshine & watch the grass grow.

Silvertips are probably the favourites going in. But never count out the host team, who will be big underdogs.
There’s a reason I don’t want the USHL in the Memorial Cup.
It’s not because of blind Canadian nationalism.
It’s because American youth #hockey has been captured by private equity companies. Players in the American junior hockey system have to pay to participate. And this is how the entirety of American youth hockey works. Parents foot the bill.
Understand that, in Canada, major junior players are paid—they do not pay. Not a lot of money. No one’s getting rich. But kids are developed and compensated, not customers that are billed.
This is a big reason why the best American youth players end up playing in Canadian leagues. Even the best American major junior teams wind up in the #CHL. Seattle, Portland, Saginaw—all in Canadian leagues.
In fact, the reason why USA was even able to win an Olympic gold medal is because American youth players were able to participate in the CHL. Matthew Tkachuk, J.T. Miller, and Vincent Trocheck all benefitted from playing in Canadian major junior hockey leagues.
USHL wants to be let into the Memorial Cup because, as far as major junior hockey is concerned, they lack prestige. When it comes to making #NHL superstars, it lags behind the CHL. And now that NCAA is allowing CHL players into colleges, its reputation is further diminished.
But if you let the USHL into the Memorial Cup, you’re letting US private equity into the Memorial Cup—and the best round robin tournament in hockey becomes compromised.
Screw that. The American youth hockey system doesn’t need the marketing lifeline of Canadian major junior hockey. And American private equity—go to hell!

I received an email & SMS from a company that works with CHL (Community Housing) to tell me they’d been engaged for smoke alarm & Gas safety checks & gave me a day & time block & asked if it suited. It did so I gave the Yes reply to them. I’ve just received another SMS to tell me the technician will call me on my number on the day plus his name & the number he will call from. I love this because I don’t answer any call from any number I don’t recognise. This means I can put it in my phone temporarily & know who is ringing. I’m impressed.
