Sometimes not removing all the colour tones from black and white film scan can be beautiful. It does also make a picture with lot of little shape stuff – like any photo of a forest, basically – bit more readable for the human eye. Reminding myself not to overdo it. :)

The art of the accidental – third and, for now, the last post

I am not fully sure if this 35mm film frame was exposed just twice or three times. Moreover, the film sat on my shelf in total probably six years before getting developed a few months ago – which made the tones even more difficult to recover. First pic with the full frame, second with square crop.

This one is dominated by a situation by a small swamp lake, in Latvia, the setting being odd enough already in-and-of-itself. The additional exposures add some ghost-like presences.

The art of the accidental – a variation of the previous post

Same subject as previous one; this film frame was exposed I think three times. Moreover, the film sat on my shelf in total probably six years before getting developed a few months ago.

On this one the third exposure is not very visible, other than on edges, so there are less elements and the feeling is bit more 'harmonious' – if that can be said of a strange photo like this. I pushed for bit more contrast, and pumped up the green bit more – the overly long storage made the negative green, which to beginn with produces all out magenta positive.

The art of the accidental!

This film frame was exposed I think three times. Moreover, the film sat on my shelf in total probably five to six years before getting developed a few months ago. Sounds like an unusable mess – which some of it also was, but there are also interesting and beautiful results!

Not fully sure how exactly I managed to produce this, but I must have taken the film out and then reloaded it at least once, more likely twice, and then misscalculated where I should restart. The first and last shot are at least five years apart, maybe even bit more.

Rawtherapee was a good tool to use on it. I'm starting get a hold on how to do this. :)

Alright, so how about this photographic comparison?

Above, taken by a relatively new smart phone model, HDR-function, I didn't do anything to it, but the phone's default algorithm stuff probably did a lot of things.

Below, taken by old Pentax film camera. Film developed by normal supermarket lab, I scanned it myself, and it was a lot of effort - also to process the very low contrast raw original. I might suck at dslr scanning, don't know, just started learning it - but otherwise been using such cameras lot before. It's a pretty alright lense too.

I guess it's pretty clear why most people prefer the first-mentioned procedure? But which is nicer?

I sometimes maintain that art is the stuff that normal people can't be bothered to do. :)

Detour: There is a place called Wayback Machine, part of The Internet Archive, where everything ever dreamed of is stored. Everything; every site ever made... maybe. Not pictures though. But quite a few. Managed to dig up some heavily edited selfies from my old site. 2002-3. I was 40.

Hey @Nundrum , yesterday I went to the library to pick up a book about Keith Haring for my kid and the catalog search results included this kid's book about graffiti.
It's kinda goofy, kinda cool.
Among other things I learned that graffiti is the plural of graffito in Italian 🤓
