United Airlines broke ground Tuesday on a new $177 million maintenance facility at Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport that will service the airline's ground equipment.

United Airlines begins construction of $177 million service facility at Houston’s Bush Airport

United is the largest airline at Bush, with more than 14,000 employees. The announcement of the new maintenance facility comes two months after United began its Terminal B lobby renovations — a $2.5 billion collaboration between the airline and the City of Houston.

Beginning Jan. 21, the Terminal B lobby at the George Bush Intercontinental Airport will be closed for approximately a year as it undergoes a $2.5 billion renovation project.

Terminal B lobby at Houston’s Bush Airport to close until 2026 for $2.5 billion renovation

The Bush Airport’s terminal lobbies are used for check-in, TSA security and baggage claim. These operations for Terminal B flights will be redirected to Terminal C, according to the Houston Airport System.
