OK, one... I am not really having a problem with. Well, I'm having a problem that it happened, but I'm not all of a sudden going, "well that's shitty that thing I liked has turned to shit" (I guess maybe "hasn't yet found a way to deal with one of the shitty things that is going on there")... That is Funko took down itch.io #itchio which is now back up...
The other... It's more upsetting. I've really liked #BrokenPencil magazine, though I've had some that I was... "I'm not really sure about this content..." I get that might happen from time to time. And it would happen often enough that I kind of "questioned" exactly the editorial policy around that.
Now I am seeing (and it seems to be confirmed at least partially) that the founder/publisher has variously stated, "I don't believe in cultural appropriation" which could well be an, "artistic freedom" statement, which I can well agree with with caveats.
Also has supported the Israeli genocide "there is no genocide" in Gaza.
This article https://www.thegrindmag.ca/broken-pencil-is-done/ seems pretty first hand knowledge toward the end.
There's a Globe and Mail article as well, but I couldn't even get like the opening paragraph, so... Oh well.
I get the perspective he's got of getting people rather upset with his statements (or latching on to them). He's claimed that it was, "all just a misunderstanding" but I'm kind of having difficulty especially with the pretty clear statements of, "there is no genocide" he's repeatedly made.
The previous, "I don't believe in cultural appropriation" possibly could be a "misunderstanding," and it sucks if that's true.
I really hope we find a replacement. It sounds like he's "taking his ball and going home."
