Crop burning:
Upland forests are being increasingly damaged. A mountainside burned off for maize becomes eroded and less productive, necessitating the clearance of more slopes.

Farmers are therefore clearing land to grow these crops. Much of the maize grown in these three countries is turned into animal feed and exported to China where there has been a boom in #meat demand. Some academics call the phenomenon #meatification.
