@mxtthxw well Wikipedia says Rupie Edwards is an ‘is’ not a ‘was’, so there’s hope, if anyone knows how to get in touch I can pass on the phone number of Bongo Herman in Jamaica (who Wikipedia also says is an ‘is’ not a ‘was’) about a decade too late (if the number’s still the same)!
