Wanna know my all-time favourite games?
Daily writing prompt What’s your favorite game (card, board, video, etc.)? Why? View all responsesNow this one is really up my ally. As a long-time gamer, there are a few games that I enjoyed playing.
So why not delve in to it!!
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic has certainly come along way. Most would be familiar to Sonic being on an alternative Earth in his more recent games. However, what started for me, is when he was living on the planet mobius during the 16-bit era. Ever since I saw sonic 1 at my childhood friends house, I was just in awe of it. The bright colours and music, I stayed for hours, I use to go to his house all the time. Then I got my Megadrive. Sonic 2 is my personal favourite simply because it introduced Tails. In a way, tails remind of myself. Following, till finally stepping out of the shadow and being myself.
Golden Axe
This is another one from the 16-bit era. If you’re wondering who the sword wielding, bikini-clad lady is, her name is Tyris Flare. The story to this actual is fragmented. Golden Axe first started out on the PC engine, before ported over to the megadrive. Whilst the manual to golden axe gives some juicy lore, what I didn’t know is what death adder is. From the wiki it states death adder is a descendent of the giants that fought the gods. The game just treats him as some op warlord that conquered, in a short time frame. Not giving any background that prior to him gaining power, he went on very long conquest march. Anyway, for the most part I tried avoiding playing as Ax battler – me and bro found it highly amusing for some dude to fight in just blue undies. Luckily in the sequel he doesn’t waltz around in it.
Valkyrie Profile 2
Jumping over to the PS2 era now. For those that don’t know or even heard of Valkyrie Profile 2. It’s based on Norse mythology, centering on 3 Valkyries; Hirst, Lenneth and Silmeria. With me playing VP2: Silmeria. This game is fantastic. From the side scroll, to the full on 3-D battle. I love the characters, I really felt for Alicia when she lost both her parents. Just to throw shade – I felt more emotion in one small scene from this than the entire bore fest of FF7 losing what’s her face by that dimwit who went doolally because test tube baby.
Phantasy Star Online
Being an entry into one of the franchises that could have rivalled FF series back in the 16-bit era. I really have fond memories playing PSO, whilst I never played it online – which is a missed opportunity for me looking back at it now. Playing it offline was the way to go for me, as I didn’t have internet. So, yeah, I played solo offline, didn’t really matter much. As for what character, I created the female newman hunter. She was fun to play, the hunter class were good for beginners. If I were to play PSO now, it would be ranger male human or male droid. Also I loved the opening to it!

And there you have it. There are more games I could throw in, sadly it would be making this post pretty long.
