This is a big deal in bioacoustics: Raven Pro - popular for over 20 years - is being retired in favour of Raven Workbench. Congratulations to the #Raven team at #Cornell for making this big step! https://www.ravensoundsoftware.com/knowledge-base/important-announcement-were-retiring-raven-pro-and-transitioning-to-raven-workbench/ #bioacoustics

Finally finished some light engineering for a bioacoustic monitoring job this summer, within the context of an agro-ecology grant. Test rig is currently running in the garden with the others in storage. Still missing some odd bits (U-bolts seem hard to source).

And second the Tree Pipit song.

Both recordings where made with a Telinga Modular but this time I switched to the FEL Clippy mics. So far I like them but haven't had much opportunity yesterday to record. Will have to follow up on this. Field recording intensifies 🎤

Here are the two recordings I made yesterday in the snow. First up the Greater Whitethroat. Was my first this year.

Autonomous underwater robot discovers hidden coral reef “hotspots”

CUREE is an autonomous underwater robot combining real-time audio and visual data to precisely map coral reef biodiversity and aid conservation.

University of Washington researchers have deciphered the specific vocalizations of endangered Cook Inlet beluga whales to map the behavioral context of their calls and determine how human-generated marine noise disrupts their communication network.

Researchers decipher beluga calls to bolster conservation efforts

UW researchers decipher beluga whale calls, revealing how shipping noise masks crucial mother-calf communication and impacts population survival.

So here is the recording of the Boreal Owl from a few weeks back, when on a night monitoring trip.

And here is the male Black Grouse song/ courtship call.
Love the contrast between the soft roling sounds and the harsh hissing.

So here is the recording from yesterday of the female Black Grouse singing (or is courtship call more appropriate?)
Wasn't aware of this behaviour/ sound before. Realy love it.
Only editing applied is a shelving EQ below 130 Hz.
