JOHN WATERS’ BEST MOVIES OF 2023 📽️ 🎞️ 🗓️ 🔟
“When most people hear my name, they think of the city of Baltimore, where I still live. But few know I have kept a secret apartment in New York City for over three decades. Why? To see fucked-up foreign movies with frontal nudity—that’s why.” — John Waters

I'm a huge fan of director Alexander Payne. His ability to capture some essence of humanity is always moving.

So I jumped into "The Holdovers" tonight without so much as a glance at the trailer.

And I'm overcome. This is, quite literally, the most human film I've ever seen.

From the subtle-but-powerful exposure of 70s race, class and sexism to gut-stabbingly hilarious lines (often bitingly delivered by the masterful Paul Giamatti), to the truth in the faces of the people on the screen who've left acting a few miles back and are now revealing parts of their souls -- Holdovers is a masterpiece.

A masterpiece.

Go see it, or be forever bereft.
