Khudai Ehtamam-e-Khushk-o-Tar Hai
Khudawand! Khudai Dard-e-Sar Hai

To be God is to have charge of land and sea;
Being God is nothing but a headache!

Walekin Bandagi, Astagfirullah!
Ye Dard-e-Sar Nahin, Dard-e-Jigar Hai

But being a servant of God? God forbid!
That is no headache—it is a heartache!

خدائی اہتمامِ خشک و تر ہے
خداوندا! خدائی دردِ سر ہے
و لیکن بندگی، استغفراللہ!
یہ دردِ سر نہیں، دردِ جگر ہے

Mataa-e-Bebaha Hai Dard-o-Souz-e-Arzoo-Mandi
Maqam-e-Bandagi De Kar Na Loon Shan-e-Khudawandi

Slow fire of longing—wealth beyond compare;
I will not change my prayer‐mat for Heaven’s chair!

متاعِ بے بہا ہے درد و سوزِ آرزومندی
مقامِ بندگی دے کر نہ لوں شانِ خداوندی
