tl:dr Get off your arse.

Our participation in Australia’s political process is important. When we engage, we ensure that our perspectives shape policy decisions affecting health care, the environment, civil liberties, and economic fairness. It isn’t always obvious, but elected officials do respond to visible, organised voices. By contacting representatives, attending or participating in consultations, and voting, we translate our values into tangible outcomes.

Policy debates without broad public input risk being dominated by narrow interests, whereas our sustained involvement keeps debates balanced and accountable.

Participation protects democratic norms. Staying informed, fact-checking claims, and insisting on transparency helps counter misinformation and polarisation. Acting together we can promote pragmatic solutions like evidence-led climate action and civil liberties safeguards, that align with our party’s principles.

Your voice matters now as much as ever. By engaging together, the Australian Democrats aim to shape a fairer, sustainable future for all Australians.

You can help to make things better. Join us and get involved in what matters to you, your family and your community.

Hi everybody. I haven't made this clear before, but my name is Wayne, and I'm the a/g President of the Australian Democrats - South Australian Division.

I'm pondering whether or not I should run in the upcoming South Australian elections.

There are ... obstacles. Because of recent issues I'm in the process of re-building the Division, of which only the barest of bones remain. This means that we are not currently registered as a formal political Party with the SA Electoral Commission. So if I ran, it would be as independent, while committing to the policy/positions of Australian Democrats. I'd need to find 250 people to fill out a form indicating support.

What I'd like from you is your thoughts on the feasibility of doing so. Sort of consulting "the wisdom of the crowd" so to speak. So have at it, what do you think? Is there any residual awareness of the Australian Democrats? Is there an appetite for another centre/progressive minor party?

You can find some info at the Aus Dems web site: https://www.democrats.org.au/ although I should point out the site is undergoing a much needed update, but it's not going to kick in for a couple of weeks yet.

Thanks for reading.

One of the #corporateMedia's reasons for existing is to turn #Australia into a polarised country with #twoTribes at war – Liberal and Labor.

Over time they've lampooned #thirdParties, into non-existence (see the emotionally driven attacks on #RickyMuir (2015) that saw a perfectly sound, *and revealing* #PartyPreferences method of #voting get abolished! Also attacks on #AustralianDemocrats (late 90s) who were secured important concessions to the #GST, that everyone benefits from today), or…(1/2)

Hi Brian, there is no 10% GST on fresh food, and milk, bread, dairy, even minimally processed meats, sanitary items. We can thank a #minorParty, the #AustralianDemocrats, for ensuring that a few other essentials were added to the exemption.

Processed foods do attract the 10%.

Pre GST there was a #luxuryGoodsTax for #displaysOfWealth items, like #yachts and #sportsCars, that was unfortunately brought under the umbrella of GST.
