What is #AuditionPay, you ask? Aren't auditions just opportunities or job interviews?

Here's what our current union contract says:

"If the performer is given employment in the picture, he shall not be entitled to compensation for auditions or tests... if the performer is not given employment in the picture, the performer shall receive 1/2 day of pay."

If we were paid to audition as we should be, there would be middle-class actors.

#GavinNewsom has real skin in the financial effects of the #SAGAFTRAstrike and #WGAstrike. The last writer's strike cost the state of #California $2 billion, and the budget already accounted for a $31 billion deficit due to changes in tech, another big Golden State industry.

If he does, I hope he'll ensure #AuditionPay is remunerated as specified in our existing contract.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has offered to help negotiate an end to the strikes that have hobbled Hollywood. Writers have been on strike since May. Actors joined them earlier this month. Newsom's office confirmed Wednesday that Newsom has been in touch with people on all sides of the strikes. So far, actors, writers and studio executives have shown no formal interest in bringing Newsom to the table. The movie and television industry is a big part of California's economy. The previous writers strike that began in 2007 cost the state's economy an estimated $2 billion.
