I like books. I read quite a bit. That is, up until last year, I read more than one hundred books a year for at least seven years running.

I like the feel, the smell and presence of paper books. However. Physical books take up space. They weigh a ton when moving. Shelves cost money as well.

Digital books are portable, easy to borrow and return to the library. I have a thousand-plus book library (that's the TBR, hah! I'm such a hoarder) on my reader, and it weighs the same as when empty.

I can read my ebooks in the bath. I can carry my reader in a pocket (cargo pants FTW).

I also listen to audiobooks in the car while commuting. Again, ultra portable, borrow and return way easy. Audiobooks are reading, and sometimes better, depending on the narration (Ray Porter is the best).

I will likely post several more times about this subject, so stay tuned or block as you see fit.

Regarding this century's proliferation of #audiobooks and the number of grumps who feel the need to bemoan it...

There was a time not so long ago when popular music was circulated in paper form. Someone would have to actually play it, possibly with an accompanying singer.

And then came the recordings. You can say what you will about a particular performance, but calling it "not real music" or "not the real song" is ridiculous.

Audiobooks are reading, just like using an ebook reader, a bound book, an app, or any other format is still reading.

Don’t be elitist, just✨let people enjoy things✨however works best for them.

Plus, if it’s a big book and there’s a cat on your lap, it’s tiring to hold the up all the time. Or sometimes the cat lays on the book.
