This is the Populus Hotel in downtown Denver, which opened in 2024. It was designed by Studio Gang architects and is reportedly the world's first carbon-positive hotel, featuring a biophilic design, sustainable materials and practices, multiple carbon offsets, and a one-tree-per-room-night planting program.

The exterior design was inspired by the bark of the aspen tree (populus tremuloides), a symbol of Colorado. It's been a great addition to the city's urban design and is located next to Denver's Civic Center Park, where several other architecturally notable buildings have been built.

The strong winds today toppled a dead aspen in our yard, saving my husband some work. It will be easy to remove and use as firewood. #COwx #Winds #colorado #AspenTree #LarimerCountyColorado

I pass these on one of my regular walks and they always rustle up a greeting. 💚 Unless it’s winter of course. #AspenTree #trees
