Aber was ist Aromantik überhaupt?

Aromantik ist eine romantische Orientierung. Aromantisch zu sein, bedeutet, wenig, keine, nur zeitweise oder nur unter bestimmten Bedingungen romantische Anziehung zu verspüren. Es kann auch bedeuten, Romantik nicht zu verstehen oder abstoßend zu sein.

Aromantik ist demzufolge ein Spektrum mit sehr vielen unterschiedlichen Erfahrungen. Jede aromantische Person erlebt ihr Aromantisch-Sein unterschiedlich.

Wer nicht aromantisch ist, ist alloromantisch.

Ob eine Person Romantik zugeneigt oder abgeneigt ist oder neutral bzw. gleichgültig, kann Einfluss auf die aromantische Identität haben, muss aber nicht. Auch alloromantische Personen können zum Beispiel Romantik abgeneigt sein.

Eine oft genutze Abkürzung für Aromantik ist "aro", sowohl im englischen, als auch im deutschen. Ein oft genutztes Symbol ist ein Pfeil, da "aro" auf Englisch ähnlich klingt wie "arrow", das englische Wort für Pfeil.
