Across the South, Confederate base names are being replaced with the names of heroes, men and women who served and sacrificed for the United States of America.

My great-uncles, my grandfather and my son all did their basic training at Fort Benning. My son started his Airborne journey there.

Today it becomes Fort Moore. The name change doesn’t take away *anything* from the generations of soldiers who passed through the front gates, but corrects the error/compromise of naming US military bases after traitors to our country. This #ArmyMom is pleased.

As a #GIBrat, I grew up with kids who had lost fathers in the Vietnam War. It never gets easier to read these articles, especially now as an #ArmyMom. But these should be required reading for everyone so the individual sacrifices each soldier/sailor/marine/airman makes is remembered & honored. Their families deserve our support.
