We're watching #AmazingHotels featuring Stanglwirt Hotel in Austria. The mountain scenery is spectacular but the decor and furniture is heavy on the pine, and there's just no way to make pine wardrobes and headboards and shelving look classy.

Watching #AmazingHotels now which is in Bhutan and it's a high-altitude lodge with Buddhist connections. But it only has twelve rooms. We've stayed in B&Bs with more rooms. I like the idea of luxury hotels but I also like the idea of losing yourself to some extent in the anonymity of it all if you want, and you can't do that when there are only eleven other sets of guests staying there.

Watching #AmazingHotels which is featuring a hotel on Langkawi, Malaysia. Looks very nice, is set in the heart of a huge amount of nature, but the discussions about the humidity puts us off the place. That and the price for a room per night, of course.

Watching #AmazingHotels right now featuring the Hassler in Rome. I'm not saying that the Catholic Church has ridiculous amounts of wealth somewhat at odds with the alleged life of its inspiration, but a priest was staying there before going to visit the Pope and as far as I can tell the lowest price for a room is around £1000 per night.

Oh, for fuck's sake. A guide at the hotel is leading workers into the local landscape and showing them crystals with healing frequencies and other crap. This is embarrassingly bad.

Currently watching #AmazingHotels which is a programme that usually shows hotels we can't afford but will always feature some element that makes you think "Yeah, that does look/sound good, to be fair." But not today. A place in Ibiza at the cost of several thousand Euros a night with lots of "wellness" treatments of highly questionable benefit, guaranteed to slim down and tone wallets but likely little else. The #woo is strong here.
Interesting with them talking about having Minke Whale on the menu in the hotel. We ate Minke Whale when we went to Iceland the first time, just for the experience. It's not an experience we'd like to repeat. Not the worst thing in the world, but texturally unpleasant and certainly something you'd need to really acquire a taste for. #AmazingHotels
#AmazingHotels coming up soon on BBC will feature a hotel in the Lofoten Islands of #Norway. We have visited Norway so many times but not to that latitude yet. We were *this* close to getting up that far a few years ago but then a little global virus spoiled plans. It's still on the list, of course. #Travel

Catching up with #AmazingHotels with Rob and Monica checking out JOALI Maldives. It looks incredible, and you'd expect no less given the ludicrous price you'd need to pay to stay there.

I can't say the Maldives have ever appealed to us. Definitely pretty, but I think we'd be bored out of our skulls after a day or two; we like our history and architecture and culture when we go off on jaunts.
