I'm playing two games of #AdvancedSquadLeader at the moment. In this second game, an online acquaintance wanted to play Starter Kit 1 only, and "as fast as possible". We're failing at the "fast" part but sometimes we still push ourselves and try to cut conversations about rules and tactics short. The goal here is to get into the groove and get faster because my opponent is trying to convince some of their offline friends to start playing face to face. And in a face to face game, things should move quicker than they often do online. Makes sense to me.
Oh no what will I do? I'm running the Japanese and I get double victory points for reaching the top edge of the map. So now I wonder. Perhaps I can split the enemy party even more and run along the road with my two units at the bottom? It's a squad and a half squad, worth three victory points; in this scenario reaching the top edge gives double victory points, so six, which would in fact be enough. Hm… Also next time I will have spotters in the jungle looking across the gap with one mortars in the back, in the open, ready to fire. Will that make a difference? I don't know. Another mortar is still in the jungle, unable to fire. I need to tie down the Brits so that the middle remains clear, I guess.

Playing the #AdvancedSquadLeader Hatten In Flames short campaign, I’m starting to get why larger battles and scenarios appeal to people. It’s cumbersome on the tabletop, but the added scope creates a narrative weight and impact that smaller scenarios can’t quite equal.

Finally got my Hatten CG underway again. I meant to take about a week off between scenarios, but it stretched to a month. Things got off to a dramatic start! #AdvancedSquadLeader

Work has been boiling over this month, with the culminaton of a major project this weekend. I hope to get back to my #AdvancedSquadLeader Hatten In Flames CG shortly.
I did not realize, when I was doing the Refit Phase, that I was coming down with some sort of respiratory illness. It did seem odd that playing #AdvancedSquadLeader was wiping me out physically that much. My reaction to the Refit Phase rules might very well be colored by my building illness. We'll see once I finish the next day in the CG. (Gotta do taxes first, and get better.)
Finished the first day and part of the Refit Phase after. I spent all week obsessing about the battle. The Refit Phase, I found it to be overly fiddly, and not really fun. Drawing the perimeters? Ugh. The rulebook desperately needed multiple illustrated examples. I gave it my best shot. #AdvancedSquadLeader

For the first time, I am playing a HASL campaign for #AdvancedSquadLeader. This is Hatten In Flames CGII, the short one. In this photo, the setup is almost but not quite done.

I played through the first game turn this afternoon. As usual, I am taking my time.

This scenario is decidedly larger than I am used to, but it's good to expand my horizons sometimes.

Well, #AdvancedSquadLeader Starter Kit is sure adding more neat stuff (via SSR). Basic Training Issue One features this scenario S105, Storm Group Sedelnikov, a Stalingrad meat grinder with several terrain features not normally available in SK!
